About morikenzie

morikenzie was founded by William and Taeko Mackenzie and is based in Argyll, Scotland which is an area of outstanding natural beauty.

William is native to the area and Taeko is quite the opposite being from the west coast of Japan, but together they work well and can pool on a wide cultural knowledge which helps inspire the morikenzie furniture concept.

William originally trained as a joiner but over the years has always been drawn to the finer side of the woodwork and has found more satisfaction in the workshop creating new pieces or repairing the old.

Taeko trained in IT and computer networking originally. After she got together with William, she realised her potential for designing furniture. For years she had admired the quality of unique furniture available at her home in Japan. She has also read countless design articles and until now, it had never occurred to her that this was what she should be doing with her life.

Together they felt that the standard of wood products today was nowhere near that of years gone and had the desire to produce work that they could be proud of and their clients would be proud of owning.
